In 1920, some community leaders met to establish a bank in the town. The charter was obtained in December of 1920 and the Bank of Frankewing opened for business on February 1, 1921. Since then, the bank has gone through many changes allowing it to grow with the times. In 1972, the bank moved to a new building closer to the new interstate. In 1992, it moved yet again to a new building across the highway form the old building. Then in 2000, the first branch was opened off of the new bypass in Pulaski. Finally, in 2005, the bank’s first branch outside of Giles County was opened in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

First Farmers & Merchants Makes Gift in Sims’ Memory

Martin Annual Fund Is Recipient of Honor in Name of Late Bank Director

First Farmers & Merchants Bank present a gift to the Martin Methodist College Annual Fund in memory of the late Henry Sims, who served as a director of FF&M Bank. Marcus Houston, (center) FF&M’s Giles County senior banking executive, along with FF&M loan originator Diane Fisher, presents the gift to Pat Ford, MMC’s director of the Annual Fund.

First Farmers & Merchants Bank has made a gift to the Martin Annual Fund in memory of longtime Giles County civic leader Henry Sims, who died late last year.

Sims, who was a member of the FF&M Board of Directors from April 2002 until his death on Dec. 22, 2006, was a lifelong educator, teaching industrial arts and building trades in the Giles County School System from 1945 until 1967, and then serving as a respected administrator in the Tennessee Vocational Technical system until his retirement in 1998. He was also active in all facets of civic and church life in Giles County.

“He was a lighthouse for the bank and for me,” said Marcus Houston, Giles County’s senior banking executive for FF&M Bank. “He pointed the right direction for us to go. There wasn’t anybody in that bank who didn’t mean something to Mr. Sims. He was a source of encouragement to everyone.”

Pat Ford, director of the Martin Annual Fund, accepted the gift.

“Mr. Sims was also a good friend to Martin Methodist College, and he was very excited about the progress that the college had made in recent years,” Ford said. “It is a meaningful gift for us, and we truly appreciate First Farmers and Merchants Bank’s support in memory of one of Giles County’s most respected leaders.”
